Sahara special

It was Sahara's dad who came up with the name sahara, he named her after the dessert because of its great beauty. she still writes to him but there is never anywhere to send them out to, except heaven but then what would the point of sending them be. Sahara writes the letters everyday and eventually there are so many that they all spill out of her desk and the teachers find them. it is then that they decide that she must work with a special needs teacher along with some crazy kid named Darrel stikes who has anger issues. eventually after being with the special needs teacher for a while, and not doing her work for a while, she has to repeat 5th grade. this year seems to be different with a new, very weird teacher who teaches things very differently but somehow finds a way to look deep inside of people. when she looks deep inside of Sahara, she finds that she will be a writer. and she is.

i thought that this was a good book. it was a quick read but had some language.

SOL #6 cabaret

SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH... everyone be quit were about to go on! the lights darken and the first line of the song is sung. we all listen intently backstage for our parts, and when its time, we hurry up the sides of the stage. I look out at the sea of faces staring expectantly up at us. when i glance up , i see the bright lights and blink. I make a game of singling out my friends and meeting eyes with them. all to soon, the lights darken and we run back offstage. after tons of hurrying on and off stage, it was finally the last song. our legs ache and we all are singing and  clapping like zombies even though we are singing a happy song. suddenly as we run off stage I feel a burst of energy and join in on the whooping, screaming and hugging thats going around at the joy of completing one more performance.

life is unfair SOL #5

Manny things in everyones life are unfair, wheather it its your older sibling getting something first or you having to go throu something bad and someone else not having to. I remember, when i was little, my big brother got everything before me and could do anything it seemed like. Now i think about people who had to go to consentrasion camps and be tortured as unfair. even though making our inventions about making life more fair were hard, i think it is good to think about all the diferent aspects of unfair.

this one summer

Rose and her family go up to Awago beach every year, Rose has a best friend there who is a year and a half younger than her but they still always hang out. this summer seems a little different though, her parents are fighting, there are some weird teenagers and her and her cousin spend the whole time watching horror movies. i don't want to say to much more so i don't revile a lll of it.

over all this was a pretty good book. it had a LOT of cursing (like every other sentence), and some mature topics. it is a very quick read because it is a graphic novel.

Thanksgiving break SOL

clip clop, clip clop. I secure my helmet on to my head and pull my hair back. I am walking very stiffly due to the chilling cold. The gate swings open and the horse jumps forward once we get in I slide in to the cold saddle and shiver. as we zoom past the gate, I swear i can still smell turkey in the air. I think back to Thanksgiving, the turkey, the family, the relatives, and that warm cozy feeling.

slice of life #3

I blow out warm air through my mouth, only to see the thick fog billowing out. I stare down at the steep hill displayed under me for yards and feel excitement rise in my chest. my brother sits down heavily behind me on the sled. "GO" he yells. then suddenly we are shooting down the hill. "iiiiiieeeeeeeeee" i scream in pleasure. then I see a big mound of snow pilling up before us, I gasp in air and shove myself backwards but it is to late we are already in the air. just before we hit the ground, I have the chance to quickly glance around. I see kids my own age and younger, older, I see their parents catapulting them down the hill... BANG suddenly we are on the ground
"aaaaaaaaa" i yelp as I feel myself lifting of again. then i am tumbling down the hill, head over heels. once I reach the bottom, I start charging up the hill, ignoring the fact that I have a face-full of snow.

ballet shoes

first comes Pauline, she was found on a sinking lifeboat and adopted by Great uncle Mathew who then sent her to live in his home in London. pauline then fell in to the care of his daughter Sylvia. then came Petrova. Petrova was orphaned in Russia and because Great uncle Mathew (GUM for short) was friends with her parents,  GUM decides to take her in to. And lastly comes polly. Polly's father just died and her mother is a dancer and has no time for children so GUM takes her in to.  the one thing that is different about Polly is that her mother sent her with a small pair of ballet slippers for when she grew older. as the girls age, it is decided that they will be sent to acting and dancing classes at an academy. as expected, Polly is wonderful at dancing, Pauline is a good actress, but Petrova cant seem to find a talent.

this charming story follows the three Fossil girls as they find there way through the ups and downs of their lives. this is a great story but I reocmend it to a younger audience. there is no mature language or topics.

slice of life #2

As I climb upwards, I feel myself leaning forwards. I can clearly see the fresh fallen snow, only disrupted by our heavy footprints. When I finally reach the top, I lift my head to look around. For a moment, everything is silent then comes the noise of a breeze swishing past, distant traffic, and the rubbing noise that snow gear makes when you walk in it. I look around, there at the bottom of the hill is the school. On my other side, everything has a layer of white across the top that seems to wash away the color. When I try to sniff, the cold air covers up any other scent. Suddenly I have an idea. "Common" I shout to my fellow hikers, then I start running down the hill. I slip, and as I swiftly gulp down air before I hit the ground, the freezing air pierces my lungs. Once back on top, we all hurry to the building. As we arrive, I feel burst of sunlight on my back, and smile.

1984

Winston smith lives in a dystopian and futurist world where everyone is constantly being watched by Big Brother. Big brother is a single man that controls the whole world. He watches everyone through telascreens that are in every room of every building and house. in this world, no one can feel anything but then winston falls in love with a young girl named Julia. together they try and break the rules, therefor getting tortured in to conforming.

I did not enjoy reading this book. my favorite character was Winston becuase he was really the only substantial character.

Slice of life

I sling my overnight bag over my shoulder and walk out of my friends house to my car. As I breath in the cool morning air, I look around. All the way down the block, people still have their halloween decorations up but then again its only  the morning after halloween. I shove my bag in at my feet then jump in the car. As I lean back, I feel the velvety seat beneath and behind me. "How was it?" my parents say in unison "awesome!"I say. My eyelids are drooping after a long night of trick-or-treating and then a sleepover party. "I hope it will be ok with you if we go look at some skis on the way home" "its about a 20 minute drive" says my dad. "um ... sure" I reply. after a 25 minute drive, we pull in to a small house, fully decorated from halloween. when we walk in, there are no skis in sight but instead, a woman holding a big puppy. then she hands her to me. "oh my god" I say "happy birthday!" my parents say as the puppy stretches up to lick my face.

Red Thread Sisters

Shu Ling and Wen are best friends, they have grown up together their whole life. the only problem is that they are orphans, in an orphanage in China. Their dream is to get adopted together but deep down, they know that there is an incredibly small chance of that happening.

eventually the day comes when Wen is chosen to get adopted, but Shu Ling is not. after she has been adopted, Wen must find a home for Shu Ling in America while trying to adjust to her  own family.

I thought that this book was Very good. it is a very quick read and is a pretty low level. there are no mature topics or language. My favorite character was probably Wen. I liked her stubborn but kind personality a lot.

Hope was here

Hope is "adaptable", she has spent her whole life moving from town to town, and  city to city. she was given to her aunt to live with for her life and she never knew her dad. At the moment hope is about to leave a restaurant and a city that she loved now she has to go to the farm land of Wisconsin and find a new diner to work at with her aunt. The diner that they end up at quickly becomes super popular, but the owner is soon diagnosed with Leukemia but won't let it keep him down and decides to run for town mayor. everyone at the diner must try and get enough people to sign the petition before time runs out.

I thought that this s a really good book. it touches some mature topics, but there is nothing serious.

The Giver

The Giver by Louis Lowry is about a boy named jonas who lives in a dystopian  world that everyone calls The Community, where things are kept in perfect order: when you are twelve you get a "job" and you cant choose what job you get, you are assigned to it. no one can feel emotions such as: love, sadness, anger, and happiness. everything that they feel is an illusion of a true feeling.

when Jonas turns 12 he is awarded a special job called the reciver. where he gains all of the feelings. in the end he runs away from the town and releases all of the memories of feeling to  the townspeople.

this was an amazing book with lots of great things that happen.

Anne was born in a charming little yellow house with loving parents but three months after her birth a fever took the life of her parents and she went to live with her mother and father's old house maid (Mrs. thomas) and her husband Mr. thomas. but soon they prove to be cruel and mr. thomas is often drunk. by the time Anne is three she is put to work for her stay; washing diapers, cleaning, babysitting the younger boys, and cooking is her usual checklist. Anne has a particularly strong love for words and learning, and so when she turns six and is admitted in to school she finds friends and people who love her for the first time. but then Mr. Thomas loses his job and Anne must leave school and she hates the world. when she turns ten she finally gets shipped of to boarding school where she is forever happy.

This book was amazing and you really learn to love Anne. I recommend this book to anyone. there is no mature language and you cant put it down until it is finished.  the genre is historical fiction

when you reach me

When you reach me. by Rebecca Stead

Miranda lives with her mom and her soon to be step dad Roger who she loves. her best friend Sal lives in the apartment underneath hers. things start to change when a crazy guy moves on to her block and Sal starts to drift away from her, and then she starts getting weird notes from an unknown source who hints that he is a time traveler and that in order to save Sal and the unknown note writer's life she must write him a letter containing certain facts about her self and her life.

I really loved this book because it was set in normal modern day but it also had si-fi elements.
i would say that the genre is Si-Fi fiction. there is not really any grown up content or language but it still has a really good message.

The Goose Girl

the book that I chose for my first blog is called the goose girl by shannon Hale. this book follows the life of a princess who is traveling to a new village to mary someone who she has never met and so she can only hope for the best. in the middle of the road to this new town the princess is overthrown by her lady in waiting and many of her guards. and the lady in waiting forces her to switch places with her, so that when they arrive at the town it seems as though the laid in waiting is the princess. when they arrive princess Ani finds a job at the royal stables as the goose girl and pretends to be a servant when she reviles her true identity her newfound friends from the stables come together to try and get back Ani's rightful place.
I really loved reading this book and I recommend it to people who like animals and historical fiction.
